Step one: leave Suvarnabhumi properly
There is no airside link between Bangkok’s two airports. You complete the full BKK arrival first — immigration, baggage reclaim, customs — and then cross the city landside. Plan the whole transfer as at least four hours end to end; anything less leaves no room for a full immigration hall or expressway traffic.
Your bags always travel with you. No airline checks luggage through between BKK and DMK, so collect everything at reclaim and keep it for the road leg — then re-check it and pass security again at Don Mueang.
The free shuttle, and when a taxi wins
A free inter-airport shuttle carries connecting passengers who can show proof of onward travel from the other airport. At Suvarnabhumi it boards at Main Terminal Level 2, Gate 3, with currently listed hours of 05:00–24:00 — confirm the current timetable on the transport pages before relying on a late run.
Public taxis from the Level 1 queue run around the clock and leave on your schedule, for a metered fare plus airport surcharge and tolls. With a tight window, a late-night landing or a heavy luggage load, the taxi’s flexibility usually beats the shuttle’s price.
Arriving at Don Mueang
International departures at Don Mueang use Terminal 1 and domestic departures use Terminal 2, so check your next airline’s terminal before you board the shuttle or taxi. From drop-off you start a normal departure: check-in, bag drop and screening, plus passport control for international flights.
